This year has certainly turned out much differently than we all imagined. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the course of our lives in many ways – both personally and professionally. Priorities have changed on all levels and, as businesses, we need to make sure that our marketing approach to attract and communicate with clients reflects those changes. Here are 4 suggested things you can do to help your marketing strategy to be successful in the new normal:
Put Relationships First. Building relationships with your clients is always a top priority. In fact, recent research indicates that consumers in the future will put more emphasis on those companies that they know, like and trust rather than pricing. Trust takes on new meaning as your clients look to see what you are doing to help the community, reach out to others and how closely your values sync to theirs. Your message needs to be one of empathy and understanding, be authentic with your clients, letting them know that you are supportive and we’re all in this together.
Focus on Digital Marketing. During the pandemic, we have spent more and more time online – whether it’s working remotely, connecting with others or making purchases. The result is that, as a business, your online presence is even more important today. Take the time to update your website to reflect the current environment. Refresh all your directory listings – including Google My Business – to ensure that when people search for you, they will find the correct information.
Be Social. While we continue to experience ever-changing circumstances in our lives, social media has become an important channel to communicate with our audience. As you post, be sure you are communicating relevant information for your audience and not just sales-related posts. Engage with them by showing your company’s personality – it will go a long way to building the trust and loyalty that will be key to succeeding in the new normal.
Be Ready to Pivot. The pandemic has taught us that things can change on a dime. The businesses that will succeed are the ones that can adapt to those changes quickly and relatively easily. If you had trouble switching gears when the pandemic hit, take a close look at what you need to put in place now so that when the time comes you are ready to move quickly. It could be as simple as investing in training for your staff or coming up with a Plan B, C or D. Be creative and start thinking outside the box.
This year has been all about change, and that can sometimes be overwhelming. By focusing on these 4 key areas, you’ll be well on your way to a strong finish for 2020.
